Day 1. Meeting Romania
|

Program:
|
the Transylvanian guide will meet the group somewhere in Hungary at approx… o'clock. From there the responsibility of the guide and of our agency starts. Also, the guide will hand out leaflets and the program, presenting the tour in a nutshell.
We will cross the northern part of Hungary, through Nyíregyháza and Mátészalka and
arrive in the evening to our accommodation place, in Negresti Oas.

Day 2, approx. 190 km. Ancient Maramures
|
|
Program:
|
the first stop of the day shall be in the village of Sapanta for its famous, peculiar and strange
in the same time, Merry Cemetery. Next will be then center of Sighetul Marmatiei, the biggest and
most important city of the historical Maramures. We will visit the museum called "The Memorial of
the Victims of Communism", dedicated to the victims of the communist regime, one of the most
frightful centers of detention from those times.
From here we will enter deeper into the civilization of the wood and visit two villages,
both protected by Unesco: Desesti with its ancient inside painted wooden church and Ieud with
two wooden churches, one of them being the oldest in entire Maramures. Also, we will visit a
local village museum. We will arrive to our accommodation place, in Borsa where we will be entertained
by typical Maramures live music.

Day 3, approx. 50 km. Wondering with the train on the Vaser Valley
|

Borsa - Viseu de Sus - Borsa
|

Program:
|
We will travel by train in the Maramures Mountains with a narrow gauge steam locomotive up on
the Vaser Valley, admiring the beautiful surrounding landscape and being fascinated by this old but still active transport mean.
It was (and it still is) used mainly for hauling logs from the forest but nowadays it is also used as an attraction for travelers. We will travel with this train upwards on the mountain to a certain point, have a picnic there and we will come back using the same train.

Day 4, approx. 170 km. Travel south…

Borsa - Bistrita - Lechinta - Reghin
|
|
Program:
|
Bistrita, once a very important mining center still preserves in the
center of the town a peculiar medieval atmosphere. We will have a short
walk in the center of the old town and visit the church. Today the town
is also famous for being included in the pages of the novel written by
Bram Stoker "Dracula".
A little bit south we will stop in Harina to enter into an old romanesque style ancient church. Lechinta is an old wine region and we will descend into a deep cellar to have a white wine tasting program (Feteasca, Muscat Ottonel, etc). We will cross in the afternoon the town of Reghin and stop in the proximity of Targu Mures, at our accommodation place

Day 5, approx. 220 km. Some Saxon civilization
|
|
Sighisoara - Biertan - Medias - Aiud - Rimetea
|
Slimnic - Medias - Biertan - Mosna

Program:
|
Sighisoara preserves an old Saxon medieval town where the legendary Pied Piper lured the children of Hamelin. It is also the supposed birthplace of Vlad Tepes - Count Dracula. Nevertheless, it is a World Heritage Site due to the beauty of the entire medieval site. We will have a sightseeing tour in the citadel and free time will be also given. Next will be Biertan, the biggest Saxon fortified church, once the residential church of the Saxon archbishops, also a World Heritage Site.
Medias also used to be a capital of a Saxon "Chair" and its old St. Margaret church with the leaned tower makes this medieval site a place worth to visit. From here we will travel east to our accommodation place, the village of Rimetea, but not before visiting the big salt mine of Turda, today a museum.

Day 6, approx. 320 km. The Aries Valley
|

Itinerary:

Rimetea - Campeni - Beius - Oradea - (Hungary) Debrecen
|
|
Program:
|
We will travel along the beautiful and romantic valley of the Aries River for more than 150 km and have several stops on the way in order to hike and also to have a picnic. Later in the afternoon we will arrive to Oradea where we will have a walk in the beautiful Art Nouveau center of the town. At Bors country border we will leave Romania behinds.

Day 7. The last day
|
|
Itinerary:

(Hungary) Debrecen - Hajdúszoboszló - …
|
|
Program:
|
After breakfast we will travel only 15 kilometers to the huge spa of Hajdúszoboszló where the group will have free program and choose between wondering in the town and going to the Bath Complex where thermal water pools and wellness facilities may be used. After this program the guide will say good-bye to the group which will start their journey towards their home.
