Description of the area:
The King's Stone is probably the most beautiful natural appearance among the Southern Carpathians due to its vertical, white dolomite cliffs. The Massif is practically a 22 kilometers long, unified limestone ridge that stretches its indented, tower-like crest between the Fagaras and Bucegi Mountains.
The trekkers are instantly captivated by its wild, vertical cliffs and frightful precipices. The summit is called Varful la Om and it with its 2.238 m height is among the highest tops of the Romanian Mountains.
Difficulty of the hikes and some other useful information:
the trails on the Piatra Craiului Mountain (King's Stone) may be considered beyond the average level of difficulty! Thus, some of the hikes may be hard and tiresome and also the weather may alter their difficulty. Still, if hiking, sporting and sleeping in tents are not something unusual then the daily excursions included in this tour will not be considered very difficult.
The main advantage of the hikes is that they start and end in the same place, and those who get tired at some point may skip one or more days of hiking by staying in the camping place. All we need for a daily hike is a smaller rucksack that should contain drinking water, food, warm clothes and rainwear. The daily hikes are not extremely long and we will not exceed 1.600 meters in difference of level per day. Due to its alpine height, weather may be changeable, therefore we suggest to take summer and warmer clothing as well. In case of good summer weather, the temperature may go up to 25-30 ?C but in case of an unexpected weather front, snowing may also occur.
